Why should I see a chiropractor?Seeing a chiropractor is not only for back pain and neck pain. Chiropractic care is an excellent way to keep your body at its peak performance through nutrition, adjustment and overall wellness. In addition, chiropractic care has been known to help a wide range of conditions from fibromyalgia to diabetes.
-
How does chiropractic care work?Chiropractic is an overall way of looking at the human body. It's based on the idea that the body is self-sustaining and self-healing. The body is in essence completely controlled by the brain through its connection via the spinal cord and the vast networks of nerves that make up the body. When this system is not functioning at its peak, the overall performance of the human body is lacking. In the chiropractic world, drugs and medicine are not utilized as a form of treating a patient. While supplementation and nutrition are almost always a part of the bigger picture, drugs and prescriptions can be viewed as band-aids to treat symptoms rather than going to the source and treating the real problem. While it's often perceived that the chiropractor is solely here to treat back and neck pain, this is simply a small piece of what the profession really is capable of handling. Chiropractors not only treat soft and hard tissue problems such as sciatica and joint pain, but are largely called on to deal with more significant issues. Some of these issues include fibromyalgia, allergies, insomnia, headaches and many more.

What can I expect from my visit to a chiropractor?Going to the Chiropractor is a new experience for many of us. Maybe we've heard through a friend or have done some research online. It's possible that you are just fed up with living in pain and it's time to do something about it. In either case, your first visit to the chiropractor will really be about getting to know the chiropractor and discussing your history, current condition and goals.
-
What results can I expect from treatment?Chiropractic is based on the idea of removing imbalances both structural and postural in an effort to allow our body to heal itself. For this to happen the network of nerves and signals from your brain, down your spinal cord, to the network of nerves must be allowed to flow freely without any interruption. Chiropractors have the ability and skill to remove these interruptions or misalignments and allow the body to perform as it was meant to. If you've ever been in a car accident, played a sport, fell down or just bumped into something too hard, it's very possible that you are not functioning at your best due to a misalignment. While there are many potential mechanical or structural causes for misalignment, there are also chemical reasons. For instance, if you smoke or drink excessively or even just have a poor diet, the chemical issues in your body can eventually cause underlying conditions and disease to appear. Allowing a chiropractor to get you back on track both chemically and structurally will bring your body back to the proper state it should be in to perform at its peak.
-
Is chiropractic effective?Chiropractic helps to remove postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can accumulate in our bodies over time. Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy. For your body to remain healthy, your nervous system must function well. For your nervous system to function well it must be free of interference. By restoring spinal function with Chiropractic adjustments, nerve interference by misaligned vertebrae is removed, thus allowing optimal nervous system function and improved health.
-
What is a chiropractic adjustment? Is it safe?Adjustments, or manipulation as they're sometimes referred to is the minor movement of vertebrae in the spine. The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae that have moved out of place for a number of reasons ranging from normal daily activity to trauma such as a car accident. When these vertebrae are out of place, it has an overall systemic effect from muscular to the central nervous system. Without proper alignment and flow of all nerves and systems in the body from the brain, we can't function at our peak. An adjustment is often a pressure from the chiropractor utilizing the hands or an instrument to move a vertebrae back into place. This happens with a quick movement and is often without discomfort. You may hear a noise that sounds like you're cracking your knuckles referred to as joint cavitation. It is the release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen from the joint.
-
What is a subluxation? When a vertebrae becomes misaligned or moves out of its normal position, this is referred to in the chiropractic profession as a subluxation. Subluxations can be caused by a wide range of issues ranging from a minor slip or bump to a car accident or any sudden trauma. When a vertebrae is subluxated, it begins to put pressure on nerves, blood vessels and everything around it. This pressure comes with a price. The subluxation interrupts the natural pathways that the messages sent from the brain need to be clear in order to be completed properly.

Why a colinic and not an enema? An enema only reaches the rectum and lower part of the colon, whereas with colon hydrotherapy the entire length of the colon is reached and it is many more times effective. According to learned centenarian Dr. Norman Walker, “One colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas.”
-
How long does a session take?Actual session time is about 30-40 minutes, but you should plan on about 1 hour for your entire visit.
-
What exactly will happen in the session? After the client is comfortably positioned, the rectal nozzle is inserted about 1½ inch. A gentle flow of pure water at about one-hundred degree water begins. Water flowing into the colon initiates peristalsis and the client responds by releasing water and waste repeatedly over the course of the next 35 minutes. This progressive irrigation and hydration that starts at the rectum, goes through the transverse section and then to the cecum, breaks up waste matter and achieves the complete evacuation of the colon.
-
How many colonic sessions does one need?Having one colonic is the first step towards renewed health and vitality. The number of colonics you need depends on your goals, intestinal health, dietary habits and lifestyle choices. During your initial visit, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, and your therapist will offer feedback and guidance as to how many sessions will be helpful for you. If it is your first time or have not had one in over a year, typcially we see results when you get 3 sessions within 10 days.
-
How often should I have a colonic?Everyone has different needs. After your initial visit, you can discuss with the therapist’s guidance as to how many and how often you might want to schedule sessions. We generally recommend at least doing a series of 3 colonics to appreciate what colonics can do for your body. Some people initially need a series or more to get the colon functioning well. Regular clients may have maintenance colonics from once a month to once every three months.
-
What should I do to prepare for a colon hydrotherapy cleansing?Refrain from eating about 2 hours before the cleansing, be as relaxed as possible and maintain a positive, cheerful attitude.
-
Will I experience any intestinal discomfort or fatigue after the cleansing?Usually not, but everyone is different. Some report a slight feeling of tiredness, but this is similar to the feeling you have after exercising vigorously. After a session, sipping warm liquids is usually very soothing. If you have concerns, consult with your colon hydrotherapist.
-
Do the treatments hurt? No. In fact many people report their colon hydrotherapy sessions as being both refreshing and relaxing.
-
Do I need to fast before a colonic? It isn't necessary. If you are familiar with fasting you may know it is a good thing to do in conjunction with colonics. If you've never fasted before, we recommend having a colonic first and learning more about your body's needs before jumping into a fast. Body Harmony has fasting guidelines which we can share with you once you have your initial visit.
-
Are there any contraindications to having a colonic?Yes, the contra indications include: Severe cardiac disease (uncontrolled hypertension or congestive heart failure), aneurism, severe anemia, GI hemorrhage, severe hemorrhoids, severe diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, cirrhosis, intestinal fissures/fistulas, advanced pregnancy, abdominal hernia, recent colon surgery and renal insufficiency.
-
Is colon hydrotherapy painful? No it isn't! Many people say the sessions are easier and more relaxing than they thought they might be.
-
Does having a menstrual period at the time of a colon hydrotherapy session have any effect on the experience? No. Some consider it a good time to have a session since your body is already cleansing. Your flow will not interfere with the success of the session. In fact there have been may reported cases where the session actually supported greatly with cramps, and PMS.
-
After a colonic, will I need to be close to the toilet all day? "Usually clients release everything while they are in our office as there is time to finish on the toilet before you go. There can be exceptions to this, of course, but most clients continue their day without urgency to eliminate.
-
Can I have a colonic if I am pregnant?Yes, if you are between 3-6 months pregnant. The chances of miscarriage are highest during the first trimester, so it is best to play it safe. As the pregnancy progresses, increased progesterone may slow peristalsis so constipation may ensue. Colonics may help with this. However, after 6 months, colonics may induce premature labor and too much fluid in the membranes surrounding the fetus may put pressure on the diaphragm and cause extreme discomfort. Please discuss this with your therapist if you have any concerns!
-
How soon after the childbirth can I have a colonic? Can I have one while I am nursing?Wait at least 6 weeks to heal and recover from childbirth before having a colonic. You can have a colonic while you are nursing. If you are coming in because of constipation, a colonic is much better than a laxative. You don’t want your baby to feel the effects of a laxative, and everything you consume orally will pass through the breast milk.
-
Will I lose weight? You will lose waste. Ridding the body of excess waste helps your body to metabolize more efficiently. You will become more conscious of what foods you are putting into your body and how your body processes those foods . I have seen many clients improve their diet and exercise regime when they start having colonics.
-
Is colon hydrotherapy dangerous in any way?Colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective way of cleansing the large intestine. We use pre-packaged disposable speculums and tubing. Our FDA-registered Specialty Health HydroSan closed-system instruments are sanitized between each session with hydrogen peroxide solution to ensure a completely sterile and safe environment.
-
Why is colon cleansing so crucial? We are all exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals on a daily basis at work, in the home, through the air we breathe, our food and water supply, and through the use of pharmaceutical drugs. In addition, we are eating more sugar and processed foods than ever before in human history and regularly abuse our bodies with various stimulants and sedatives. By cleaning the colon, you are decreasing the general toxicity of your body and supporting your liver to function more efficiently. It’s like changing the oil in your car on a regular basis.
-
Will a colonic make me constipated or give me diarrhea?Sometimes if there is a full release during your session, you may not have a bowel movement the next day, as we have emptied your colon of most solid waste. This doesn’t mean that you are constipated. On the other hand, if you do not fully release during a session there may be residual water in your colon that you may release later in the day.
-
I'm worried that I could become dependent on colonics. If I have too many, will the colon stop functioning on its own? Are colonics habit forming?"Actually, colonics have a toning effect on the colon. They stimulate the colon muscles and remind them how to work. Physically, colonics are not habit forming. Your body will not become reliant on them to eliminate.

What is the difference between a regular sauna and an ozone sauna? The steam sauna at our clinic infuses an activated versio of oxygen which staurates the skin and has a much deper detox and cleasning effectf ro the lymphatic system. Also becuase we keep the brain cool and outside of the heat the core body temperature is able to go past a certain threshold which in turn allows the body to get a much more effective result. When the brain gets hot in noral saunas, it limits the way the body can actually receive the "medicine" of the heat becuase when he brain is hot it causes stress and the body is not able to reach a true "healing" state.
-
Tips for expeirencing our sauna:Make sure to waer loose clothes for after the session as your skin will be heated and is less comfortable to put on tight clothing like jeans and such. Drink a quart of water at least per sauna session. Do not stay in if you get dizzy or have any other discomfort. Replace the vitamins and minerals lost through sweat. Always check with your doctor to make sure any new health treatment is right for you. Especially check with your doctor if you have multiple sclerosis, lupus, new joint injuries (under 48 hours), metal pins, impacts, or artificial joints, or if you’re pregnant or have hemophilia.
-
How long is a session? It really depends on you, Once you have a feeling of being at a personal threshold of heat and sweat it is safe to assume you have reached your max. We do not encourage to "push" it. AND if at any time you feel dizzy or very unconfirtable its is wise to end. But on an average its between 25-45 minutes.
-
How many sessions are suggested for maximum results? It really depends on your health goals, but typically we see the most results when clients do 10 sessions wihtin 30 days. Even just one session will provide an immediate and long lasting effect. If you have any chronic symptoms, we do suggest utilizing this treatment 1-2 times a week for 3-4 months. If you are pretty healthy and just looking for maintaing or boosting performace 1 session week ongoing will provode amazing life changing results.
